FIRST ROUND SUCCESS!

The Friends of Heckington Windmill have been successful in their First Round bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund to buy & restore the buildings associated with the mill and the mill yard.

Funding from Heritage Lottery enables us to produce a full and detailed bid for August 2012. A final decision will be made by HLF in December 2012.

Plans include:
  • Creating a new visitor centre in the granary
  • Moving the shop into the granary
  • Reinstating mill stones onto the ground floor of the mill
  • Providing a full history of the heritage of the site via new interpretation & displays
  • Restoring the historic buildings and the setting of the mill
  • Providing disabled access to the mill
  • Reinstating the old bakehouse
  • Providing better car parking & toilet facilities
  • To buy the field at the rear of the mill to grow our own wheat

Redevelopment of the site

Picture
The mill buildings that will be included in the redevelopment
The plan to buy the whole site and redevelop it is not a new one.
The first draft scheme was proposed about 15 years ago.

These original ideas have been developed and extended and brought together in the current Heckington Windmill Regeneration Project.
