Legacy Giving

Donations

make a donation >
There are many ways you can make a donation to the Windmill - we really do need your help to maintain this amazing building and site.
  • Single Donations can be made online or in person, or by writing to the Trust enclosing a donation
  • Regular Donations can be made through Payroll Giving, where you donate a regular sum each month direct from your salary
  • Donations in Memory are given by family and friends in memory of a loved one who has passed where the windmill held a special place in their heart.
  • Legacy Giving is a specified amount written into your will
If you would like to give a donation to the windmill please contact [email protected] or write to us at The Mill, Hale Road, Heckington, NG34 9JW
Thank you.  Your donation will make such a difference to our work.

What is Legacy Giving?

All legacies to charities are free from Inheritance Tax. In 2012, a new initiative was introduced that reduces your overall IHT liability from 40% to 36% if you leave 10% or more of your estate to a registered charity.
So leaving us a gift in your will is not just a great way to show your support, it is tax-efficient too.

There are two ways to leave us a gift in your will:

1. A pecuniary legacy. This is either a fixed sum of money or a particular item.
2. A residuary legacy. This is the remainder, or a percentage, of your estate after specified gifts to family and friends have been made and all costs paid.
Residuary legacies tend to be more beneficial as they are not affected by inflation. However, we welcome both types of legacy.

We are always hugely grateful for any legacy gifts that we receive. If you like, you can tell us about your legacy by completing our Confidential Pledge Form, which you can download from our website. When we receive your form, we will send you an invitation to visit the museum so we can say ‘thank you’ in person. You will have the opportunity to meet our staff and volunteers, and find out how your gift might be used to educate and inspire future visitors. Unless you ask to remain anonymous, all legacies over £1,000 will also be recorded and acknowledged in our Annual Report and Accounts.

Leaving us a gift in your will is a straightforward process. Simply ask your solicitor or will-writer to draft a codicil to your existing will, setting out the type of legacy you want to leave and how you would like your gift to be used. If you do not already have a will, ask a friend or relative to recommend a reputable law or will-writing firm in your area who can help.

As an independent windmill, museum and charity, we do not receive any public funding. Instead, we rely on generating our own income through grants, admissions, commercial activities and donations. Large or small, your legacy will help us care for the windmill and the historic buildings that make up this unique site.

If you would like to specify which area your Legacy goes towards please do let us know.
